YOUNG PLAYERS – CODE OF CONDUCT

When playing football, I will:

  • Always play to the best of my ability and for the benefit of my team

  • Play fairly – I won’t cheat, dive, complain or waste time

  • Respect my team-mates, the other team, the referee and my coach/manager

  • Play by the rules, as directed by the referee or coach in training

  • Be gracious in victory and defeat – I will shake hands with the other team and referee at the end of the game

  • Listen and respond to what my coach/team manager tells me

  • Understand that a coach has to do what is best for the team and not one individual player

  • Talk to someone I trust or the club welfare officer if I’m unhappy about anything at my club

If I do not follow this code, the following actions may be taken:

  • Be required to apologise to my team-mates, the other team, referee or team manager

  • Receive a formal warning from the coach or the club committee

  • Be dropped or substituted

  • Be suspended from training

  • Be required to leave the club

In addition:

  • My parent or carer may be informed of any breaches of this Code of Conduct

  • The FA or County FA may impose a fine or suspension on the club

SPECTATORS – PARENTS / CARERS / FAMILY MEMBERS

We all share a responsibility to set a good example and provide a positive environment where children can enjoy and learn the game.

I Will:

  • Drop off and pick up my child from training on time

  • Take full responsibility for my child in case of emergencies on and off the pitch

  • Remember that children play for fun

  • Applaud effort and good play, not just success

  • Respect the referee’s decisions, even when I disagree

  • Appreciate good play from both teams

  • Remain behind the touchline and within the designated spectator area

  • Allow the coach to do their job and not confuse players by giving instructions

  • Encourage players to respect opponents, referees and match officials

  • Support positively and offer encouragement, not criticism

  • Never engage in or tolerate offensive, insulting or abusive language or behaviour

If I do not follow this code, the following actions may be taken:

  • Issued with a verbal warning from a club or league official

  • Required to meet with the club, league or County FA Welfare Officer

  • Required to meet with the club committee

  • Required to complete an FA education course

  • Required to leave the match venue

  • Requested not to attend future games

  • Suspended or have club membership removed

  • Required to leave the club along with any dependents

In addition:

  • The FA or County FA may impose a fine and/or suspension on the club

COACHES, TEAM MANAGERS & CLUB OFFICIALS

On and off the field, I will:

  • Use my position to set a positive example for young people

  • Show respect to everyone involved in the game, including match officials, players, coaches and spectators

  • Adhere to the laws and spirit of the game

  • Promote fair play and high standards of behaviour

  • Respect match officials’ decisions

  • Never enter the field of play without permission

  • Never engage in or tolerate offensive, insulting or abusive language or behaviour

  • Be gracious in both victory and defeat

When working with players, I will:

  • Put the wellbeing, safety and enjoyment of players above winning

  • Never engage in or tolerate bullying of any kind

  • Encourage players to take responsibility for their behaviour and performance

  • Ensure all activities are appropriate for the player’s age, ability and maturity

  • Cooperate fully with others involved in football for the player’s best interests

Add Your HeIf I do not follow this code, the following actions may be taken:

  • Required to meet with the club, league or County Welfare Officer

  • Suspended from attending matches

  • Suspended or fined by the County FA

  • Required to leave or be dismissed from the club

In addition:

  • My FA coaching licence may be withdrawn

MATCH OFFICIALS

I will:

  • Be honest and completely impartial at all times

  • Apply the Laws of the Game and competition rules fairly and consistently

  • Manage the game in a positive, calm and confident manner

  • Deal with violence, aggression, unsporting behaviour and misconduct appropriately

  • Never tolerate offensive, insulting or abusive language or behaviour

  • Support fellow match officials at all times

  • Promote good behaviour and respect from players and team officials

  • Communicate clearly and encourage fair play

  • Respond calmly and confidently to appropriate requests for clarification

  • Prepare physically and mentally for each match

  • Complete and submit accurate reports within required time limits

If I do not follow this code, the following actions may be taken:

  • Required to meet with FA or County FA refereeing officials or committees

ADULT PLAYERS

On and off the field, I will:

  • Adhere to the Laws of the Game

  • Display and promote high standards of behaviour

  • Promote fair play

  • Respect match officials’ decisions at all times

  • Never publicly criticise match officials

  • Never engage in offensive, insulting or abusive language or behaviour

  • Never engage in bullying, intimidation or harassment

  • Speak respectfully to team-mates, opponents and coaches

  • Accept that everyone makes mistakes

  • Win or lose with dignity and shake hands with opponents and referees after matches

If I do not follow this code, the following actions may be taken:

  • Be required to apologise

  • Receive verbal or written warnings

  • Be required to attend an FA education course

  • Be dropped, substituted or not selected

  • Be suspended from training or matches

  • Be fined

  • Be required to leave the club

In addition:

  • The FA or County FA may impose a fine and/or suspension on the club
